42CrMo4 steel is a versatile alloy with good atmospheric corrosion resistance and reasonable strength. 42CrMo4 steel shows good overall combinations of strength, toughness, wear resistance and fatigue strength. How about 42CrMo4 weldability?

42CrMo4 weldability is limited. Preheating to 200-300℃ is strongly recommended. The upper limit should not be exceeded because of risk for deterioration of the chrome layer.

For 42CrMo4 weldability, however, welding of 42CrMo4 steel in the hardened and tempered condition, is not recommended and should be avoided if at all possible, as the mechanical properties will be altered within the weld heat affected zone.
