(1) A285C steel plates should have good mechanical properties. Firstly, the A285C steel plates used in boiler and pressure vessel should have proper strength (mainly yield strength and tensile strength) to prevent plastic deformation and even fracture under pressure. For boilers and medium and high temperature pressure vessels, the creep resistance of A285C steel plate should also be considered, and the high temperature performance indexes of A285C steel plate, namely creep limit and rupture strength, should be determined.
Secondly, the A285C steel plate must have good plasticity to prevent the failure of boiler and pressure vessel caused by accidental overload in use.
Thirdly, the A285C steel plate used for making boilers and pressure vessels should be of high toughness so that the boilers and pressure vessels can withstand the impact loads that may be encountered during operation. Especially for pressure vessels with lower operating temperature or ambient temperature, the impact toughness of A285C steel plate should be considered, and the impact test of A285C steel plate under operating temperature should be carried out to prevent brittle fracture of vessels in operation.
(2) A285C steel plates should have good technological properties. Because the pressure-bearing parts of boilers and pressure vessels are mostly rolled or stamped with A285C steel plates, it is required that the A285C steel plates have good cold plastic deformation ability and can be easily formed during processing without cracks and other defects.
Secondly, the A285C steel plate for boiler and pressure vessel should have good weldability to ensure that the A285C steel plate can obtain high quality welded joints under the specified welding process conditions.
Thirdly, A285C steel plate is required to have appropriate heat treatment performance, easy to eliminate the residual stress generated in the process of processing, and is not sensitive to post-weld heat treatment cracks.
(3) A285C steel plates should have good corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance. When designing pressure vessels, proper corrosion resistance materials must be chosen according to their conditions of use.
