Controlled rolling and controlled cooling process (TMCP) is generally used to control the microstructure of ABS EH36 marine steel plates and to produce carbonitride precipitation strengthening. The best mechanical properties of ABS EH36 marine steel plates
such as high strength, high toughness, high weldability and good formability can be obtained under TMCP condition.
Compared with traditional production process, TMCP process has shorter production process, less energy consumption, greatly reduced production costs and shortened production cycle.
But for thicker ABS EH36 marine steel plates, because of slow cooling rate and uneven deformation during rolling, the precipitated proeutectoid ferrite will grow up and even form Widmanstatten structure, and the pearlite clusters and lamellae will coarsen, which will reduce the strength and toughness of ABS EH36 marine steel. The mechanical properties of ABS EH36 marine steel plates must meet the requirements of ABS classification society. However, the properties of the thicker ABS EH36 steel plates obtained by controlled rolling and controlled cooling are unstable, and usually the strength is satisfied, but the low temperature impact performance is not satisfied with the requirements of classification society. Therefore, it is necessary to improve ABS EH36 steel property with late heat treatment.
