45# Equivalent Steel Grade

45#, is a kind of steel in GB. 45# is a common quenched and tempered medium carbon steel. Usually, the spot goods of the 45# is in the majority of hot rolling in the market. The specification of the cold rolling is mainly in 1.0-4.0mm.

45# Equivalent Steel Grade:
Japan JIS Standard Grade is S45C/S48C; Germany DIN Standard Material No. is 1. 0503; Germany DIN Standard Grade is C45; UK BS Standard Grade is IC45/080A47; Italy UNI Standard Grade is C45; Spain Standard Grade is F. 114; America AISI/SAE Standard Grade is 1045; International Standard Organization ISO Standard Grade is C45E4.

Characteristics of 45# carbon steel:
The cold plasticity of this kind of steel is ordinary, when annealing or normalizing will a little better than tempering, it has the higher intensity and better machinability, through the proper thermal treatment could get the certain tenacity, plasticity and wear resistance, the source of material is convenient. It is suitable for hydrogen welding and argon arc welding, not suitable for gas welding. It is need preheating before welding, and annealing to relieving stress after welding.

Si: 0.17-0.37%
Mn: 0.50-0.80%
P: ≤0.035%
S: ≤0.035%
Cr: ≤0.25%
Ni: ≤0.25%

It's ensity is 7. 85g/cm3, elastic modulus is 210GPa, poisson ratio is 0.269.

Mechanical Property of 45# steel:
Normalizing:850℃
Quenching: 840℃
Tempering: 600℃
Tensile Strength:≥600Mpa
Yield Strength: ≥355Mpa
Elongation: 16%
Shrinkage: 40%
Impact Energy: 39J
Hardness of the delivery condition:
Hot rolled steel: ≤229HB
Annealed steel: ≤197HB

Application: 45# steel is used to manufacture steam turbine, compressor, moving parts of the pump; and could replace the carburizing steel to make gears, axles and piston pins, etc. (the parts need high frequency or flame quenching on the surface); also could used to produce casting.
