US steel import license applications rose sharply in July

According to the latest steel import monitoring and analysis (SIMA) data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the number of US steel import license applications rose sharply in July this year.

According to the trade data provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce, in July 2020, the total number of US steel import license applications was 2.007 million short tons, a substantial increase of 20.5% compared with the application volume of 1.666 million short tons in June; compared with the preliminary statistics of 1.391 million short tons in June, it was a sharp increase of about 44%.

In July, 1.219 million short tons of finished steel products were applied for import license, a slight decrease of 6.9% compared with the preliminary statistics of 1.31 million short tons in June 2020. In the first seven months of this year, the cumulative steel import volume of the United States reached 14.394 million short tons, down nearly 23% compared with the same period of last year.
