China exported 25 million tons of steel from January to May 2020

From January to May, China (referring to mainland China only, the same below) imported 5.464 million tons of steel, an increase of 12.0% year-on-year. From January to May, China exported 25 million tons of steel, down 14.1% year-on-year.
 
From January to May 2020, the export volume of steel products of all major varieties declined sharply year-on-year. Among them, the export of round bar, wire and rail materials saw the largest year-on-year decline. Affected by the decline in export order prices during the severe epidemic situation, the average export prices of all major steel products declined year-on-year. Among them, the average export prices of rods, wire rods, angles and pipes have dropped significantly year-on-year.
 
Plate is still the main variety of China's steel exports, and its proportion in total exports has increased year-on-year. From January to May, China's export of steel plates accounted for 61.5% of the total steel exports, an increase of 1.4 percentage points from 2019.
 
ASEAN, the Middle East and South Korea are still our main export destinations. From January to May, China exported 14.712 million tons of steel to the above three countries and regions, a year-on-year decrease of 0.7%, accounting for 58.8% of total steel exports. Although the export of steel products to major countries and regions dropped sharply year-on-year, exports to the Middle East and some countries in South Asia and South America increased year-on-year.
 
From January to May, China exported 3.546 million tons of steel to the Middle East, an increase of 5.3% year-on-year. The main export growth category was cold-rolled coils; export of steel to Pakistan was 563,000 tons, an increase of 1.6% year-on-year. The export growth category was mainly heat Rolled coil plate; exports 534,000 tons of steel products to Peru, a year-on-year increase of 5.0%. The main types of export growth are alloy steel bars and wires.
