Brazil's flat steel export reached a new high in May

According to the latest data released by Brazil's Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Brazil's flat steel exports set a new record in May.

In May, Brazil's flat steel exports reached 648,000 tons, up 270.2% from 473,000 tons in the same period in 2018 and 260% from April this year. This amount has set a new record for Brazilian flat steel exports in a single month. Data from Brazil's Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade show that the previous maximum monthly export volume of flat steel was 416,000 tons in September 2015.

In the first five months of this year, Brazil exported 1.64 million tons of flat steel, an increase of 40.9% over the same period last year, and its export volume reached 925.2 million US dollars, an increase of 24.3% over the same period last year. However, in terms of average export prices, Brazil's flat steel export price in January-May was $623 per ton, down 11.7% from the same period last year.

From the point of view of export destination, by the end of May, the main purpose of Brazil's flat steel export was Vietnam, accounting for 23% of the total export volume; the export volume to the United States, Argentina and Colombia accounted for 14%, 12% and 11%, respectively.
