Hardened (H) 431 stainless steel material property data sheet

After quenching and tempering processes, the hardness of hardened (H) 431 stainless steel (AISI 431/S43100) can be increased to 58-60HRC, with a tensile strength of over 1080MPa, while maintaining a 10% elongation and 39J impact toughness. Its carbon content is strictly controlled at ≤ 0.20%. By optimizing the martensitic structure to reduce carbide precipitation, the wear resistance and fatigue resistance are significantly improved. It is suitable for precision components such as high load mechanical transmission shafts and aviation fasteners. 431 stainless steel material has better corrosion resistance than 420 series stainless steel in marine atmosphere and low-temperature saltwater environment, but the oxidation risk needs to be evaluated when exposed to high temperature environments above 200 ℃ for a long time.

As a representative of martensitic stainless steel, H-state 431 has both processing adaptability and stability, supporting processes such as forging, rolling, and argon arc welding. Its physical properties include magnetic characteristics and a density of 7.7g/cm³, which are widely used in fields such as ship shock absorbers, chemical valves, and medical surgical instruments. It particularly demonstrates high cost-effectiveness in industrial scenarios that balance strength and corrosion resistance requirements. The recommended heat treatment standard is oil cold quenching at 950-1050℃ followed by tempering at 275-350℃ to ensure optimal comprehensive performance.
