Avoiding rust on AISI type 410 stainless steel

‌AISI 410 stainless steel has a lower chromium content (11.5%-13.5%) and is less corrosion resistant than austenitic stainless steel, so protective measures are needed to delay rusting. Surface passivation treatment (such as immersion in nitric acid or citric acid) is preferred to form a dense oxide film to isolate the corrosive medium. At the same time, avoid exposure to high humidity, high chlorine or acidic environments. Marine or chemical scenes require plating or paint protection.

In daily maintenance, regularly remove surface stains and keep them dry to prevent localized electrochemical corrosion. After welding or processing, the weld seam and cutting surface need to be passivated again. Properly increasing the tempering temperature (200-300℃) can optimize the 410 stainless steel material's stress corrosion resistance, but it is necessary to balance hardness and toughness. Through comprehensive protection and process optimization, its service life can be significantly extended.
