API spec 2W is the American Standard Petroleum Institute specification, thermomechanical controlled rolled TMCP steel sheet for marine structures. For welded structural parts of marine structures, steel plates in key parts must be resistant to impact, plastic fatigue loads and laminar tearing.
Grade: API 2W-50 steel plate thickness can reach about 150mm, API 2W-60 plate thickness can reach about 100mm.
API 2W steel can achieve higher performance than traditional steel: such as welding without preheating.
Vanadium V, zirconium Zr, cerium Ce and other rare elements shall not be added without special approval. If these elements are to be added, a C symbol shall be marked after W.
API 2W-50 API 2W-60 steel sheet tensile properties requirements:
API 2W-50 Yield Strength ksi (MPA) 50-75 (345-517), Tensile Strength ksi (MPA) 65 (500)
API 2W-60 Yield Strength ksi (MPA) 60-90 (416-621), Tensile Strength ksi (MPA) 75 (520)
Each steel plate produced by the TMCP process shall be subjected to a Charpy V-notch impact test. If the re-examination does not reach the required energy value, the steel plate cannot be accepted according to the requirements of this specification.
Low-sulfur steels with improved through-thickness properties:
API 2W-50 API 2W-60 is the American Standard Petroleum Institute specification/thermomechanical controlled rolled TMCP steel sheet for marine structures. The steel plate with low sulfide content is supplied by chemical control method, and then the possibility of laminar tearing of the steel plate in the joint weld area is reduced, and the maximum sulfur content should be 0.006% trademark suffix LS.
