AISI 431 (1.4057/S43100) is a martensitic stainless steel known for its high strength, wear resistance, and moderate corrosion resistance. Its composition includes 15% -17% chromium (Cr) and 1.25% -2.5% nickel (Ni). Through heat treatment, the balance between hardness and toughness can be optimized, making it suitable for high load environments. AISI 431 material is widely used in aviation grade components (such as satellite parts, transmission shafts), engineering equipment (such as bearings, hydraulic cylinders), and precision instruments (such as hybrid blades, golf ball heads). In sheet metal processing, S43100 reduces carbide precipitation through strict carbon content control (≤ 0.20%), and can be improved to 58-60HRC hardness through quenching and tempering processes. Its corrosion resistance is superior to 420 stainless steel, especially in marine atmosphere and low-temperature saltwater, but 431 stainless steel needs to be applied with caution in high-temperature environments.
