The differences between A106 Gr.B steel pipe and A53 GR.B steel pipe

A106 Gr.B steel pipe and A53 GR.B steel pipe has close chemical composition and mechnical properties. But they also have a lot of differences.

1.A53 GR.B steel pipe can be both A53 GR.B welded pipe and A53 GR.B seamless pipe. While A106 Gr.B steel pipe is seamless pipe only.

2. A53 GR.B steel pipe is general spec which covers galvanized pipe and black pipe. A53 GR.B steel pipe is available in Type S (seamless), Type E (ERW, electric resistance welded longitudinal seam), and Type F (furnace welded).

While A106 Gr.B steel pipe is intended for high temperature service (up to 750 Deg F). A106 Gr.B steel pipe just applies to seamless steel pipe with killed steel. A106 Gr.B steel pipe of NPS 1 1/2” and under may be either hot finished or cold drawn. Unless specified, A106 Gr.B steel pipe on and over NPS 2″ shall be furnished hot finished, while A53 GR.B steel pipe is not.

After all, A53 GR.B steel pipe is usually for defining welded pipe, while A106 Gr.B steel pipe is for seamless.
