What is the low alloy steel properties performance?

Low alloy steel has been widely used in the manufacture of construction machinery, ships, bridges, high-rise buildings, boilers and pressure vessels, electricity, and various vehicles. Below are the properties of low alloy steel.
1. Strength
The yield point of the steel structure determines the stress that the structure can bear without permanent deformation. The minimum yield point of typical carbon structural steel is 235MPa. The minimum yield point of typical low alloy high strength steel is 345MPa. Therefore, according to the proportional relationship of its yield point, the use of low-alloy high-strength steel allows the stress to be 1.4 times higher than that of carbon structural steel.
 
2. Formability
In order to easily and economically perform hot or cold processing to make various parts of engineering structures, low-alloy high-strength steels must have proper formability.
 
3. Welding performance
Because of the frequent use of welding processes, it is very important for low-alloy high-strength steels to be welded by the widely used arc welding process in the case of thin plates and steel strips. The welds of the fabricated steel structure should have the required strength and toughness, so that they can withstand the most unfavorable conditions for the intended use.
 
4. Corrosion resistance
Some low-alloy high-strength steels have good atmospheric corrosion resistance, which can not only improve the effect of anti-corrosion coatings, even in some cases, take appropriate precautions and be exposed to the atmosphere without coating. Elements that improve atmospheric corrosion resistance are copper, phosphorus, silicon, chromium, nickel, and molybdenum.
 
5. Notch toughness
Low-alloy high-strength steel grades are designed to have fairly good notch toughness for their intended structural use. In order to meet the extremely strict requirements of some applications, some low-alloy high-strength steels produced have excellent notch toughness.
