The above steel is the main steel type for shipbuilding. Moreover, sometimes stainless steel also can be used in shipbuilding. Shipbuilding steel, just as its name implies, the main application is for Shipbuilding and ship repairing, also can be used for oil platform etc.

Shipbuilding Steel grade

The shipbuilding steel classification includes four grade which consist of A, B, C and D, all of these classifications have the same tensile strength(400~520N/mm^2) and yield strength(more than 235N/mm^2), however, their impact energy varies when under different temperature.
High-strength hull structural steels usually divides their intensity level by the minimum yield strength, and according to their different strength levels and impact toughness each intensity level steel can be divided into four grades which include A, D, E and F.

Shipbuilding Steel Properties

A, D, E and F in these grades(as following) is classified by the minimum impact toughness that they can achieve when under the temperature like 0°,-20°,-40°,-60°respectively.
A32, D32, E32, F32: yield strength≥ 315N/mm^2 tensile strength:440~570N/mm^2
A36, D36, E36, F36: yield strength≥355N/mm^2 tensile strength:490~620N/mm^2
A40, D40, E40, F40: yield strength≥390N/mm^2 tensile strength:510~660N/mm^2
