ASTM 316 Grade 0Cr17Ni12Mo2 (old number) 06C17N12M2 (new grade) equivalent to American Standard TP316, JIS SUS316, is simply ASTM 316 material. ASTM 316L grades 00Cr17Ni14Mo2 (old number) 022C17N12M2 (new grade) equivalent to American Standard TP316L, JIS SUS316L, is simply ASTM 316L steel.

ASTM 316 main chemical components:

C ≤ 0.08, Si ≤ 1.00, Mn ≤ 2.00, P ≤ 0.035, S ≤ 0.03, Ni :10.0-14 .0, Cr :16.0-18 .5, Mo :2.0-3 .0.

ASTM 316L main chemical components:

C ≤ 0.03, Si ≤ 1.00, Mn ≤ 2.00, P ≤ 0.035, S ≤ 0.03, Ni :10.0-14 .0, Cr :16.0-18 .5, Mo :2.0-3 .0

These are different ASTM 316 and 316L. The biggest difference in the use of ultra-low carbon so that the ASTM 316L welding, ASTM 316L deposition of carbon easily combined into chromium carbide and chromium, can reduce corrosion of the welded portion.
