The term is usually applied to the hot rolled coil, related to the cleaning and protecting the new rolled steel. After the hot rolling process, some of impurities will remain on the surface of steel, the steel are easily oxidized (rusted) and infected dust during the storage and transport.
Pickling is a continuous process, requires the hot rolled coil uncoil and subsequent rewinding, can be processed by liquid pickling, which helps the steel iron to remove surface contaminants, rust, dirt or oily before rinsing and drying. After the pickling process, the surface coated with a thin oil layer will protect the steel from corrosion and helps to further processing operations, such as by injection lubricants to extrusion molding. The feed of single cold rolling mill either pickled hot rolled (extra cost), or self-owned pickling line, to process it before the material into the cold rolling mill.
