Blast furnace (BF) is the main steel equipment, use of iron ore as a main raw material. These tall, shaft-like structures equipment in a continuous process heat will be separated iron from iron ore, thereby producing molten iron (pig iron), then conversion to steel through a substantially oxidizing furnace.
As the main input materials, iron ore, coke and limestone are injected into the top of the BF. Preheated air are blown into the BF from the lower layer, so as to maintain the heat reaction including the coke, and release of carbon monoxide (CO). Those are with iron ore (iron oxide) which produce carbon dioxide (CO2) and molten iron -- these kinds of material falls on the bottom of the BF, and be regularly spanking.
Preheated injection material's hot-gas of BF make ore becomes small, and converted the limestone to carbon dioxide and quick lime. This can be reacting with impurities of molten iron, thereby forming slag and be removed.
BF general annual capacity is 100 million -500 million tons, and generally after a few years operation it will need to be maintained.
