BOF will smelt the molten iron which output from BF into molten steel. This shift is by blowing oxygen into the molten iron, so that molten iron's carbon and oxygen combine, and generate Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. The silicon, phosphorus, sulfur and other harmful elements combine with the impurities to form slag by adding a solvent (typically lime), then removed. Chemical reaction within BOF will generate heat, scrap is the most common additive, It can play a cooling effect. We can add 30% amount volume in BOF, the total amount can up to several hundred tons.
The smelting equipment / process have a variety of names like BOF, BOF steelmaking furnaces and LD steelmaking process etc.
