A36 steel is a standard steel alloy which is a common structural steel used in the United States. The A36 standard was established by the standards organization ASTM International.
As with most steels, young's modulus for A36 steel is 200 GPa. A36 steel has a Poisson's ratio of 0.260, and a shear modulus of 79.3 GPa.
ASTM A36 steel Min yield strength is 225MPa, and tensile strength range is 400–550MPa.
A36 Steel Plate Chemical Requirements:
Carbon up to .29 maximum depending on thickness
Manganese range of .80 to 1.20 depending on thickness
Phosphorous is .04 maximum
Sulfur is .05 maximum
Silicon range of .15 to .40 maximum depending on thickness
As a standard low carbon steel, without advanced alloying, A36 steel is widely used in boilers and pressure vessels with elevated temperatures. And A36 is produced in a wide variety of forms, including: plate, structural shapes, bar, sheet.
