P355GH steel is a carbon steel alloy engineered for use in pressurised service. It is used as a weldable material in the fabrication ofpressure vessels and industrial boilers which are commonly found in petrochemical plants, oil refineries and gas installations.
Pressure vessels are designed to safely contain hot liquids and gasses and the steel material needs to display certain characteristics to be fit for this purpose.
P355GH steel is an ideal material for use in pressure vessels, especially in the storage of hot liquids. It is produced under the Euro Norm standard EN10028 which replaced the older British and German DIN standards. The material is an equivalent to the American standard grades
ASTM A516 Grade 70 and ASME SA516 Grade 70.
It is a normailized steel which is designed for use in elevated temperatures. The material shows good tensile and yield strength and has good welding characteristics when using conventional welding methods. This particular grade also offers good cold and hot forming properties.
Normalization improves the toughness of the steel. It is an annealing process where the material is heated and left to cool naturally. The method essentially toughens and hardens the steel providing increased tensile strength. P335GH steel pressure vessel is delivered in a normalized condition.
The
EN10028 standard specifically covers steels for use in steel vessels and boilers and grades vary dependent on the tensile and yield characteristics of the steel. P355GH steel offers a range of tensile strength from 510 to 630 MPa dependent on thickness and yield strength range of 280 to 355 MPa.
Steel of this type is normally supplied with mill certification and stamping which makes the material full traceable. Further third-party inspection can also be arranged at a customer's request. Examples include HIC testing, impact testing and non destructive tests such as magnetic particle inspection.
