ASTM A240 316L stainless steel is the standard molybdenum bearing grade. ASTM A240 316L stainless steel has an extensive variety of uses especially in marine applications due to the materials high corrosion resistance.
ASTM A240 316L stainless steel is one of the basic grade of the stainless steel range. 2% molybdenum bearing ensures better corrosion resistance than CLC 18-9L grade, particularly regarding to uniform and localised corrosion.
ASTM A240 316L stainless steel is an austenitic microstructure grade, free of deleterious carbide precipitations in grain boundaries. ASTM A240 316L stainless steel contains some residual ferrite (3%) after solution annealing (1050-1150°C – 1922-2102°F) and water quenching. Chemistry and heat treatments may be optimised in order to control the ferrite content.
