Boiler steel mainly used to make the materials which is used in manufacturing the superheater, main steam pipe and boiler firebox heating surface. It has a good welding performance, a high temperature strength, alkali resistance and resistance to oxidation. Commonly used boiler steel has hearth smelting low carbon steel and electric furnace smelting low carbon steel, the carbon content in the range of 0.16%-0.26%. When making high pressure boiler, should choose pearlitic heat resistant steel or austenitic heat resistant steel. In recent years, also use ordinary low-alloy steel to manufacture boilers, such as 12 manganese, 12 manganese vanadium, 18 Mn Mo NB etc.
The suitable steel to manufacture boiler includes drum steel and boiler tube steel. Drum steel should have high thermal strength, toughness and stability and permanent deformation and rupture do not occur under high pressure water vapour effects long term. Boiler tube steel should have high temperature strength, elongation, resistance to oxidation, corrosion resistance, stability and good processability. The drum steel commonly used is 12Mn steel, 16Mn steel, 19Mn6 steel, 15MnV steel, 14MnMoV steel and13MnNiMoNb steel. The boiler tube steel commonly used is 12CrMo steel, 12Cr1MoV steel, 12MoVWBSiRE steel, 12Cr2MoWVB steel and 12Cr3MoVSiTiB steel.
Boiler steel is used primarily in the fabrication of boilers in industries such as shipbuilding, petrochemical and manufacturing boilers, pressure vessels, gas turbines, manufacture of heat exchangers, spheres, compressors and storage tanks, manufacturing a variety of skid mounted equipment designed for the oil and gas industry, other industrial and commercial purposes.
