Standard specification for Carbon Structural Steel
ASTM A36 Steel is one of the most common carbon structural steels used in the plate fabrication industry. Its uses vary but it can be riveted, bolted or welded in the construction of bridges and building, and for general structural purposes.
A36 Steel Plate Chemical Requirements:
Carbon up to .29 maximum depending on thickness
Manganese range of .80 to 1.20 depending on thickness
Phosphorous is .04 maximum
Sulfur is .05 maximum
Silicon range of .15 to .40 maximum depending on thickness
A36 Steel Plate Mechanical Requirements:
Yield Strength is 36,000psi minimum
Tensile Strength can range from 58,000psi to 80,000psi
Elongation in 2” test is 23% minimum
Elongation in 8” test is 20% minimum
